Firm Overview

Category: Venture Capital - Early Stage (Pre-seed/seed, Accelerator, Angel) - Developed Markets

Collab was founded in 2019 and is co-managed by Jewel Burks Solomon and Barry Givens. Since its formation Collab has invested in 38 companies. The firm has a focused investment approach, targeting companies led by at least one Black founder with controlling interest. This is important, because the fund was founded with a goal to disrupt the racial wealth gap by growing Black ownership in high-growth companies, that would go on to create high paying jobs and underlying solutions that close access gaps across the main determinants of wealth - work, health, and infrastructure (ie. software to support transportation, digital access, housing, etc). Collab targets market-making and/or category defining solutions that have the potential to improve the lives of millions of people at scale.

Investment Overview:

At Collab, we invest in market making solutions to the world's most pressing problems across healthcare access, economic mobility and community infrastructure. We invest at the seed stage, $1-2M with a target ownership of 10%.

Company Differentiator:

Our backgrounds as successful founders with exits turned corporate leaders and ecosystem builders, means we've navigated a lot of what our founders have experienced which is unlike many of our peers. Additionally, our focus on helping companies reach sustainability and build the right capital stack (instead of chasing the next round of VC) sets us apart from our peers.

Investment Example

Goodr - Goodr is on a mission to combat hunger and reduce food waste. At Goodr, they've been dedicated to feeding families and seniors through impact data solutions and partnerships nationwide. Goodr is on track to hit $11M in revenue in 2024.
