Investment Overview:

Coyote Ventures backs founders who are solving problems that disproportionately affect overlooked populations, with a foundation in women’s health. Founded by scientists, entrepreneurs, and investors, Coyote takes an integrative view of health that spans physical, financial, and emotional health. General Partner Jessica Karr was a Biochemist at Impossible Foods and has hands-on experience building and launching novel products. The Coyote team includes 12 Venture Partners and over 50 expert advisors. Coyote has completed 12 investments, and is actively investing to create a synergistic portfolio of innovative health-centric solutions.

Company Differentiator:

There are few venture capital funds focused on improving women’s lives. Coyote Ventures is focused on health and wellness with a lens on how innovations improve sustainable development goals of gender equality, good health and wellbeing, and responsible production and consumption. General Partner Jessica Karr was a biochemist, early employee at Impossible Foods, and has a vast experience working with startups and investors. Our all-female deal team is community driven, and our expert advisory network includes medical doctors, scientists, and health tech executives. Our focus on diligence and portfolio support with a medical and science emphasis is a core differentiator.

Investment Example

Coyote Ventures invested in Malama Health's Seed round. Malama Health aims to improve maternal and childbirth outcomes related to high risk pregnancies. Malama's first product replaces an archaic pen and paper system for pregnant people diagnosed with gestational diabetes, a condition that affects nearly 1 in 5 pregnancies. Their HIPAA-compliant remote monitoring makes it easy for patients and providers to track glucose and meal data. Gestational diabetes can have significant impacts on maternal and birth outcomes, including higher rates of cesarean births and premature births. Despite gestational diabetes’ widespread impact on the lives of pregnant women both in the U.S and globally, there are extremely limited ways that patients and providers can easily track and understand the disease. Malama Health now has launched several Medicaid Managed Plans to address birth equity.

Investments systematically target companies where social and/or environmental impact is integral to the product/service being created:

Coyote Ventures is investing in products and services that improve women's lives, our diligence process reviews the impact on gender equality as well as accessibility of pricing, geographic reach, design with racial equality in mind, and ways the products intersect with sustainability. One example, the first breast cancer risk assessment to include crucial racial data (former assessments were trained with heavily caucasian-focused data sets). Another example, a period product that decreases total number of tampons and pads to reach the landfill. We produce an annual impact report.

Investments systematically include social and environmental sustainability practices in the due diligence process:

We only consider investments with female executives. 100% of our portfolio company CEO's are female. Many of the CEO's and co-founders are LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and living in diverse geographies.
