Investments systematically target companies where social and/or environmental impact is integral to the product/service being created:

AWE Funds’ ESG policies are based on IFC’s ESG policy template. We have a robust, quantitative, well-understood system to evaluate the portfolio companies from the stage of screening (including understanding the founder's intentionality and commitment to integrate ESG policies in the operations of the Company) to the execution of Definitive Agreements whereby covenants pertaining to adoption of ESG and GEM policies are included. Through our ESG and GEM metrics, we assess the portfolio company’s developmental and social impact. We conduct ESG diligence and if due diligence identifies deficiencies, the post - closing action plan will include proposals to achieve compliance within a reasonable period. As an example, for the first time, we have included a covenant whereby the Company have undertaken that until the AWE is invested, they shall increase the number of women engaged as employees, farmers, suppliers by 10x times the current number.

Investments systematically include social and environmental sustainability practices in the due diligence process:

i. We have currently employed an edited version of the Bloomberg Gender Equity Survey instrument to capture relevant quantitative and qualitative assessment before and during the investment holding period. We are in process of transitioning to a more relevant Gender Equity Scorecard more suitable for privately held companies given that Bloomberg is more relevant for developed markets and publicly traded companies. ii. Our End of investment Impact for SDG#5 is measured against the 3 levels of AWE Funds Impact Manifestation. iii. We have adopted AWE Funds Gender Focus Grid to guide as gating criteria for our portfolio investments. iv. Our ESG Rating Scale based assessment of the ESG & related development impact. v. We measure the impact of our investments against the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG#5 is a major consideration. We typically also see at least 3- 8 additional SDG’s being met.
